Week of August 25-29, 2008
Monday: Bell Work:
mini-lesson--analogies, word of the day, journal, mugshot
The students will
be given a list of literature terms from the SOL resource guides. They will use
the Prentice Hall Literature Books to define these terms in the literature section
of their notebooks. These terms will be used throughout the year when reading
short stories, novels, and essays. Discuss the first ten terms, summarize and
close lesson.
Tuesday: Bell Work: mini-lesson analogies, word of the day, journal,
mugshot
The students will continue to define the literature terms using the
literature books. Discuss the next ten terms, summarize and close lesson.
Wednesday:
Bell Work: mini-lesson sentence structure, word of the day, journal, mugshot
The
students will finish defining the literature terms. The final terms will be discussed.
The students will complete a practice review sheet on the terms for a grade. Summarize
and close lesson.
Thursday: Bell Work: mini-lesson--word origins, word of the
day, journal, mugshot
The students will receive notes on complete sentences
and sentence errors. They will apply this skill by writing their own sentences,
correcting sentences from the board, and completing practice sheets. All work
will be graded and reviewed in class. Summarize and close lesson.
Friday: Bell
Work: mini-lesson--sentence structure, word of the day, journal, mugshot
The
students will continue to practice writing the different types of sentences and
correcting sentence errors. They will correct run-ons and fragments and correct
for other errors such as wordiness, choppiness and redundancy. Summarize and close
lesson
